Church Bells – les cloches de l’église Chimes – Carillons
Bells – Cloches
Ringing – Sonnerie
At 7 am je prends this is what I hear:
The bell rings in threes, trois times so 3 x 3
Then four single rings then thirty-two double rings then four single rings.
At 12 midday it rings but how many I’m not sure I must go there and make an effort to listen properly then I can maybe understand better but im not always around nor does the sound travel clearly for all the rings depends on the wind blowing direction!
Then again at 7pm it happens all over again.
Get up do your prayers go to work
Stop working, mange your lunch then return.
Stop work do your prayers and aller home.
More research required but to be honest I’m already so used to them, I hear them start whilst laying in bed every morning and trying to count them, but it is more effective than Nytol or counting sheep… hence the lack of facts and beaucoup uncertainty
So after a weekend avec une visitor, that we dropped at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport on a whim, we or maybe it was I made the decision to make the most of being so far west from home proche Pamplonne that we needed to head a bit more west and north to Montauban. SO we got out the Michelin Map ( ooo I do love a map) and plotted to travel on past to Valence d’Agen where as always everything was closed Monday morning but we did find an agent that was open she was called Sophie Bizard , Bourse de l’immoblier, and she taught us how to pronounce Bordeaux correctly amongst other things ( I guess local accent changes here too! Martin being Martin took the opportunity to say it as many times as possible until Sophie asked him if he was moque her… of course he was but luckily she was laughing with us, any way she rang around her colleagues in neighbouring towns and registered our interest so that SHE is our agent within that company so if the right property comes up she gets the commission, very Dynamic and pleased us that she seemed on the ball. We then went on to Moissac and Castelsarrasin where all in all we registered with another half a dozen agents.
During our 400km day trip we crossed the Tarn the Garonne back and forth over the Canal du Midi a place Martin has always wanted to be, on his yacht crossing from one Ocean to the other…
Today (Saturday) we collected our first visitor and drove straight to Cordes bit of a mad dash from Toulouse, as the flight was slightly delayed and so we only just made it to lunch in time ( more on that on a separate post) through the constant rain. The photos speak for themselves although lashing down and donned with rain coats and a chill, in the rain it was still beautiful to walk carefully, even if out of breath and heart in aerobic beating fashion from the restaurant at the bottom through the winding cobbled & artisanal filled streets to the top and as soon as we reached the summit with ‘The Duke’ whose idea it had been to visit despite the weather marched us, back down again, as he was cold and wet and his shoes were letting in water… not even a pause for coffee at the top.
Just one of the Artisinal boutiques… amazing hand painted fabric…amonsgt many other treasures.
So Mandy I’m so handy, is showing her wares at this exhibiton.
Salon du Mariage -espace Gérard Philippe, 31620 Fronton, Midi-Pyrenees, France.
This weekend 5 /6 novembre 2016
Julie took me round to Mandy house as previouly planned earlier in the week with Mandy, however she wasnt there as her daughter Chloe had come off her Motobike (she only got it back two or three days ago after it was repaired) and so Mandy had headed off to hospital to get Chloe checked out. Fingers crossed that she is okay.
So here you see her demonstration cakes for the Wedding Faire between Montauban & Toulouse. Im sure her exhibiton stand will look much more professional than my snap shots.
Completly edible including the Flowers (not the ribbon or Stalks)
Get your orders in after you put your eyes back in and stopped dribbling! Even if you dont plan to be a bride thers always a Anniversaire (Birthday) or Celebration even just to celebrate Cake! 😉 you know me!
Many Christians remember the lives of their mort relatives and all the saints on this day 1st November (Fixed). They visit special church services, place Fleurs on family graves. Here in France, it is also a popular period for a short autumn vacances to visit or be close to famille members.
The streets have been lined with flowers for sale at the florists. Chrysanthemums are an important symbol of grief and funerals and can be seen in abundance. Hence, they are often laid on graves, turns out they are for this day NOT to for giving as gifts.
I walked along with the dog ‘Fidget’ this evening to the local church and its tiny cemetery to see for myself, they are well-kept places although I did have a bit of a chuckle at the small collection of empty laundry liquid bouteilles et other plastic bottles disregarded but for communal use to top up the flowers and plants with eau. Wish I’d taken that photo now! However, I was being discreet incase it was disrespectful. I’m told, inside this dull appearance church, its beautiful, and a surprise. Peut-Etre I’ll be brave and venture in some day when the doors are open.
So today was a fixed public holiday here in France, All Saints Day. The 1st November every year no matter what day it falls on that is the public holiday so folk often have yesterday off to bridge to the weekend and make it even longer.
So nothing open and Martin had to work all day, Boohoo… I know you are all feeling sorry for him and rightfully so. It’s a tough life after coffee break pre lunch… trying to relax for 5 minutes as I.T. has him very stressed today.
Not wanting to rub anybody’s nez in it but the temperature inside the pierre grange – clearly doing what its supposed to do… stay cool.
But outside Martin was testing the water…brrrr and the food…yum quiche fromage de chevre epinard avec salade crudités
No Panto shouts here!
Diddle Diddle Dumpling
Alfresco petit déjeuner
The temperature was around 28 earlier I even got ‘Corned beef skin’ through my linen shorts! Whilst eating my lunch outside. You know, that blotchy red-hot skin from standing too close to the fire!?!
And this is how the seasons are changing, the long shadows down the steep chemin, one of the roads leading out from our calme hamleau, the tree half-way down overwhelms my eyes with its abundant colour party going on!
So I’m doing my daily post in a rush to get to do my weekly Skype with my mama and when the video camera lights up my screen she is sat in her front room waiting for me to video call her and this is the vision I had… I nearly pee’d my pants with laughter! Mad Mama Mary I think I’ll call her from now on. Don’t you just love her?! Good job I didn’t take too long she would have been passed out from the heat and lack of oxygen.
Casper the friendly Ghost or Ghost buster? Coming out of the toilet?
Peut-Être just ‘Max’ to his owners, anyway I’ve missed him on 3 occasions, and I’m not sure where to begin the story…
So firstly the name change… Maximillian is the name the character played by Russel Crowe is called by his late Uncle Henry played by Albert Finney in one of our favorite dreamy french life movies directed and produced by Ridley Scott ‘ A Good Year’ which was based loosely on a book by the same name by Peter Mayle that why we have refered to him with his Sunday best.
Next who he is and why I’ve been waiting to see him. OK well he belongs to Colin & Stephanie who are also the owners of Le Clot Chambres D’Hotes (Bed and Breakfast) which is 4.4km away from where we are staying. However he is also the Boyfriend of the beautiful Fidget I introduced you to at the beginning of Octobre.
The reason I say I’ve missed him on several occasions is two-fold, firstly let me tell you he is old and deaf, yet he escapes, when he has not seen Fidget for a while and travels the 4.4 km to arrive at Fidgets door somewhat exhausted, that is long way and some steep hills at his age, Fidget Sulks when he arrives as he has no energy left to play or entertain her and needs to rest by which time his owners have been informed and they come to collect him. However its a two-way street, Fidget does the same journey to go visit him when it suits her, what a love story!
Let me tell you how disappointed I was when he arrived to finally get some love story shots of him and her together having arrived by car so not worn out and only a day since being apart from Fidget, she had a weeks holiday with him and Colin, and they were coming for a thank you Sunday Pork Roast Dinner with Yorkshire Puddings to our voisins… Lucky Colin. So I missed him on the occasions when he turned up unexpectedly and i missed him when he arrived on several shots as it turns out he is camera-shy … so this is the only shot i got of him under our table, Fidget close by in the background.
So this evening in France I cooked my first three course French meal with French ingredients in a French farmhouse on a French cooker with a French guest we drank French Wine and French aperitif oh and a London Gin & Tonic… eek!
I had a little help from my friends Rachel And Julia. You may remember Rachel, gorgeous dark-haired chick lived in a Paris Apartment wears clothes in the style from the 50’s so dresses and looks like a real woman. She cooked on her two ring cooker in her tiny kitchen for guests that waited on a long list to be seated in her two covers a night living room restaurant. Yes thats her Rachel Khoo. Remember her ? Well she suggested to me to cook;
Salade tiède de pommes de terre
et pommes avec des miettes de boudin noir
Beouf bourguignon avec des quenllese de baguettes
Served with some buttered steamed fine green beans and a few carrots and of course bread! It wouldnt be true French otherwise!!!
Poires Belle Hélène
I have to admit these are not my actual photos but those from the recipe book after all how odd would I have looked to my french guest Jean ( who looks remarkably like he could be Johhny Depp’s dad) if he had seen me pause for a photo shot after each course. I was going to take a photo of the empty plates again but then that wouldn’t get you salivating in quiet the same way. Go ahead google the names of each dish and see what they consist of, I already did the hard work shopping and cooking, if you want to try them then get looking 😉
The evening was very nice and great company as was the food even if I am telling you … I was pleasantly surprised.
Oh and the other help was Julia Childs – a must see DVD Julia & Julia then you will know who I mean.
