The delicate alpine blue flowers used for many reasons, but the reason that I’m bringing it to your attention is whist looking for information about how the French celebrate or commemorate Armistice Day or Remembrance Day is exactly that…
A blooming flower which is often used a symbol for remembrance.
Created in 1921 to remember returning American Soldiers & of the sacrifices those made of life and limb, National Forget-Me-Not Day originally raised funds for services where there were none.
It was also created as a day to remember and get in touch with friends and family that you do not see on a regular basis, also for:
Grandparents day, that needs no explaining and hopefully does not correspond or double up to the previous sentence!
But I’ll get to the point, it is also the flower and day of Alzheimer’s Remembrance which is kinda cool that just before Remembrance/Poppy day on the 11th November when ‘lest we forget’, we remember both, grandparents and those that have lost the full or partial ability to remember for themselves that disease which only gets worse, and is very painful for those that can remember.
However now I have finally got round to write more about it, I can’t find my original research information. Desperate to get it posted, here it is raw, but to bring awareness, however painful it is to remember, we are non that forget those we treasure now and for always. TOGETHER we support one another, Time heals, but
Peut-Être just ‘Max’ to his owners, anyway I’ve missed him on 3 occasions, and I’m not sure where to begin the story…
So firstly the name change… Maximillian is the name the character played by Russel Crowe is called by his late Uncle Henry played by Albert Finney in one of our favorite dreamy french life movies directed and produced by Ridley Scott ‘ A Good Year’ which was based loosely on a book by the same name by Peter Mayle that why we have refered to him with his Sunday best.
Next who he is and why I’ve been waiting to see him. OK well he belongs to Colin & Stephanie who are also the owners of Le Clot Chambres D’Hotes (Bed and Breakfast) which is 4.4km away from where we are staying. However he is also the Boyfriend of the beautiful Fidget I introduced you to at the beginning of Octobre.
The reason I say I’ve missed him on several occasions is two-fold, firstly let me tell you he is old and deaf, yet he escapes, when he has not seen Fidget for a while and travels the 4.4 km to arrive at Fidgets door somewhat exhausted, that is long way and some steep hills at his age, Fidget Sulks when he arrives as he has no energy left to play or entertain her and needs to rest by which time his owners have been informed and they come to collect him. However its a two-way street, Fidget does the same journey to go visit him when it suits her, what a love story!
Let me tell you how disappointed I was when he arrived to finally get some love story shots of him and her together having arrived by car so not worn out and only a day since being apart from Fidget, she had a weeks holiday with him and Colin, and they were coming for a thank you Sunday Pork Roast Dinner with Yorkshire Puddings to our voisins… Lucky Colin. So I missed him on the occasions when he turned up unexpectedly and i missed him when he arrived on several shots as it turns out he is camera-shy … so this is the only shot i got of him under our table, Fidget close by in the background.
So I’m sitting outside in the total quiet the sun beating down and getting somewhat hot, I had my 15 minutes of unprotected vitamin D sun rays, having had to roll up my jeans, then I went in, to put my shorts on, complete still with my thermal vest, (I have a limited wardrobe with me) stunning fashion look, watch out YSL, and adorned sunscreen, my Mam will be pleased to read, (who remembers that song? Wear Sunscreen, I love it) reading and writing then along the door scampers this little fellow. I’m not sure who moved the quickest or whose heart was pounding the most… turns out there were lots of them all very petit but they are also very scared.
Can you see me?
Here I am …
And this bébé cooo had escaped its mère in the opposite champ crossed the road and jumped the ditch. I had been trying for days to get a photo of a calf. Its mother was looking over the gate on the left of a right hand bend, I said typical no calf and as we turned the bend there on the right. i stopped the car and asked Martin if we should go tell the farmer..
Martin got out the car and approached the nearby barn with a parked car outside and the door wide open… not a soul to be found. As he walked back he approached the calf who became spooked and jumped though that field behind. let hope they were reunited very soon and no escaping injuries.
So while quietly catching up avec ma mère via Skype on Sunday as everything closes here in France, however it is anything but dull and boring…Through the gate and over the pebbles came Mandy (‘I’m so handy'(Martins cheeky name) pourla voisine du bas de la ruelle) avec sa ménagerie…
From à gauche: Polkadot led by Emily, Fleur hiding Sarah the smaller fair-haired twin, and Hannah the taller dark-haired twin of Julie and Andy leading the way with Spirit the pony. and La is Mandy ‘Im so handy’ accompanied by Dan the dog.

As you see all is calme but it did not last for very long. Fidget who seemed très uncomfortable with all these animals on HER land ran off unusually, to a passing car in the hamlet only just missing under the wheels, she was reprimanded and put in the house. Mandy ‘I’m so handy’ encouraged the girls to mount the barefoot unbridled horses despite being bareback. Sensibly the twins changed footwear and got their helmets on had already given the horses a good groom. Emily being the lightest defaulted to Spirit, mounting by receiving a leg up from Jim, Mandy ‘Im so handy’s partner, who immediately bucked her off, Spirit that is, not Jim, into the seated audience which quickly dispersed out of immediate danger also to shut the gates as Spirt bolted and the other horses became spooked.Thankfully no one was seriously hurt maybe just a bit of dented pride by brave Emily who dealt with the unfortunate dismount Spirit gave her amongst us strangers, remarkably well. Tranquillité was soon restored et ils se trottent maison à leur champ voisin.

Above is Andy our equally handy landlord he does renovations for a living, with his 4th girl Fidget, in his full length combats and layered upper corps wrapped up in a nice Weird Fish pull, however can you see the silly English man (with his barbe) in short sleeves & shorts, spot those anglais a mile off… but I do like his shirt ;-).
That is his name, after the french minister with the similar tummy! He is so very timid however Martin managed to get him to come close enough to nibble the ends of his fingers, before he jumped and ran off mirroring Martin! HAHA!
His owner Michelle does not speak a word of english nonetheless we managed to converse with my little french and the international language of hand signals.
So here we have the pet Pot Bellied Minature pig le cochon, it belongs to Michelle(I met her aujourd’hui and she gave me troi baisers) & Marcel our neighbours across the lane. I’ve yet to find out its name, however it was very funny to watch, although very nervous yet inquisitive – like all young.
They also have sheep, lambs, black and brown laying hens living harmoniously together in the field, round the corner are the ducks !
Spirit belongs to Mandy – our down the lane neighbour (I’ve heard she makes fantastic cakes (thats sounds like it needs to be page of its own feature), teaches & translates amongst other things) then she has just acquired Polkadot & Fleur more on them later as they are still unpacking and settling in…
Meet le plus récent member to our famille–Bienvenue to Fidget.Elle is une petite batarde or a mongrel to us mainly made up of Griffon & Berger. I’m no Crufts judge but she dont look much like that to me. She was rescued from the farmers unwanted litter by her real parents Julie and Andy. She is huit ans (8yrs of age) so like us rapidly approching her 50’s, however slighly more nimble and agile than me! She could be Dolly’s longer legged sister with Cassie’s temperament. She likes Martin, he turns into a big clumsy puppy around tous les chiens, and longs for the jour when he can have his very own Brian ( a dog!) and Shaun ( a chat not a mouton) Although he would also like rear his own Mintsauce & Redcurrant and maybe even a bit of Applesauce & Sage. Along with our very own Henrietta’s. But first we need to trouver notre forever home…
